Critics Reviews
Critics weren't huge fans of Langston Hughes. White critics would just ignore him, less serious critics compared his poetry to Cassius Clay doggerel, and most black critics only grudgingly admired him. Critics mistook Hughes's simple form and language for scarcity of meaning. Many black critics called Langston's work low rate because he didn't depict positive images of black characters.  Langston believed that all black people deserved to be represented in his work no matter what their social status is. Langston basically created a new form of poetry called jazz poetry. Critics weren't fans of this type of poetry either because they were concerned with the racial pride that came with the creation of purely African American poetry. Even though there were numerous negative reviews some African Americans loved his work because he brought more black heritage representation into the community and opened doors for other black writers.
